John Howard Society of Okanagan & Kootenay Back to Provincial Site

Our Community Living services support adults under the care of Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), who may also benefit from assistance in building connections to their community and accessing important services and supports to achieve greater independence.

We’re qualified to provide a range of CLBC services including outreach, community inclusion, skill-development and Home Share across the Okanagan (Vernon to Osoyoos). We believe in community supports that meet the person served where they’re at, co-negotiating service goals that are person-centred and strength-based. Our qualified staff are familiar with resources in the community. We’re also familiar with harm-reduction and positive behavioural interventions & support.

We support neurodiverse needs, such as complex neurologically-based behaviours or adverse outcomes such as mental illness, addiction, or struggles with housing or criminal justice risk. Many people we serve have a combination of these complex needs.

For more details about CLBC, or to assess if you or somebody you care for is eligible for CLBC supports, please refer to their website.

Our Community Living Services

Outreach & Community Inclusion

Our outreach services assist eligible individuals to identify, work towards, and achieve their self-determined needs and goals by connecting them to services, supports, and activities, in addition to supporting them in developing life-skills so that they can achieve greater independence and actively engage in their community. Our services are inclusive and person-centred at their core.

Home Share

Home Share is a residential option for adults with developmental disabilities in which the individual shares a home with a care provider who provides ongoing, individualized support. This option provides an ideal balance of support and independence. For some, this is a step towards greater independence, while for others it is a lifelong living arrangement.

Community Housing

Community Housing is a housing option for adults with developmental disabilities where services are focused on skill development and enhancing independence.
