Transitional Support Coordinator
S.T.O.P is a FREE voluntary program for people who have used or are at risk of using violence in their relationships. This course provides participants with the peer-based support and counselling that are needed to develop healthy, positive approaches to navigating conflict. You may be referred to the program through your lawyer, support worker or simply feel that you and/or your partner could benefit from the program. You do not need to be convicted of a criminal offence to attend this program.
S.T.O.P is a 12-week program that provides psychoeducation around abusive behaviors and addresses intimate partner violence. This information is provided within a group format, there are separate groups for men and women. STOP provides facilitation of non-violent communication skills, emotional regulation tools, learning about self-esteem, safety planning, relapse prevention around violent behaviors, unpacking our relationship with ourselves, and our relationships with others.
Currently the program is running weekly, between 6-9 PM.
There are many sensitive topics covered in this program, support and follow-up are available to assist in facilitating skills obtained during the group. Certification is provided for participants who complete the course and references are available upon request.
This program is ran four times annually. Community agency and self-referrals are welcomed. Applications can be dropped off, filled out in-person, emailed or faxed to the facilitator.
