Access to safe, affordable, and accessible housing is a cornerstone of healthy communities. Our housing continuum seeks to address homelessness and reduce barriers to independent living so all community members can reach their full potential.
We are experiencing a housing affordability crisis in BC. Many people are unable to afford housing, let alone suitable housing that meets their needs. Homelessness, risk of homelessness, and inadequate housing affects a diverse and growing population and is often the result of a cumulative impact of several factors, rather than a single cause. Recognizing the need for long-term supports, we offer a continuum of housing and wraparound services across BC that meet people where they are at and support their evolving needs. This ensures that we can support people to not only secure but to maintain safe, affordable housing.
Our Housing Supports
Our transitional housing services assist people to live more independently by providing a supportive temporary home as they transition towards more independent living. Our transitional housing includes residential programs for people experiencing precarious housing, homelessness, or those exiting the criminal justice system. Transitional housing may also be accompanied by wraparound services and supports to facilitate a successful transition, such as those related to problematic substance use, mental illness, life-skills, education, and training.
Our supportive housing services integrate housing with community-based support for individuals experiencing complex barriers, including homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, and/or criminal justice involvement. Our goal is to help people to live independently and overcome challenges that restrict their ability to actively engage in their community, our supportive housing provides safe, stable housing and the supports that residents need to lead fulfilling lives.
Our homelessness prevention initiatives assist people to secure and maintain housing in a way that takes into account their personal preferences and needs, while addressing housing affordability, safety, and suitability. Key supports available through our homelessness prevention programs include assisting community members to secure housing, maintaining positive tenant and landlord relations, and accessing rental subsidies when eligible.
